FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
Perimenopause is the hormonal transition that leads up to menopause. It can last anywhere from 2 to 12 years and typically begins in the mid-40s, though some women experience symptoms in their late 30s. During this time, estrogen and progesterone levels fluctuate unpredictably, which is what causes the wide range of symptoms. Menopause is defined as 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period. After that point, you are considered postmenopausal. The symptoms do not always stop at menopause. Many women continue to experience them for years after.
-
The most commonly reported symptoms include irregular or heavier periods, hot flashes, night sweats, disrupted sleep, brain fog, mood changes, anxiety, fatigue, joint pain, weight gain (particularly around the midsection), vaginal dryness, and low libido. The challenging part is that these symptoms often overlap with other conditions: thyroid dysfunction, stress, iron deficiency, and others. A thorough assessment helps separate what is hormonal from what else might be contributing.
-
This is something we hear from nearly every woman who walks through our door. You are not imagining it, and you are not being dramatic. Hormonal changes during perimenopause affect the brain, the mood system, sleep architecture, metabolism, and the cardiovascular system, all at once. The experience can feel disorienting because it is. As for not being heard: perimenopause has historically been under-researched and undertreated. That is changing, and it is part of why Bonita exists. We listen, we assess, and we take action.
-
Yes, significantly. Declining estrogen reduces collagen production, and skin becomes thinner, drier, less elastic, and more prone to pigmentation changes. Many women experience increased sensitivity, new breakouts along the jaw and chin, and a loss of the facial volume that kept skin looking lifted. This is the intersection where Bonita's medical aesthetics and wellness services work together. We can address hormonal skin changes from the inside and the outside.
-
Our approach is whole-person and layered. For hormonal management, Jessica Caceres, NP assesses and prescribes hormone therapy where appropriate. For skin changes related to hormonal decline, our laser, injectable, and skin treatment services are tailored for the perimenopausal face and body. For metabolic changes, Metabolic Balance® is a 12-week clinician-led nutrition program designed to recalibrate your metabolism at the root level. For pelvic floor and intimate health concerns, Kristen Parise, PT provides pelvic floor physiotherapy, and we offer B-Pulse, Vitalia, and the Orgasm Shot for intimate wellness.
-
No. If you are experiencing symptoms, age is not the barrier. Perimenopause is a biological transition, not a number. Women in their late 30s can be perimenopausal. We assess based on your symptom profile, hormone labs, and health history, not a cutoff on a chart.
-
This is exactly the kind of question a Bonita consultation is designed to answer. Symptoms like fatigue, mood changes, and irregular periods can have multiple causes. Our assessment includes a thorough health history, symptom review, and appropriate lab work. We rule things out systematically and arrive at a clear picture together.
For clients who are planning to transition off a GLP-1, Metabolic Balance® is especially valuable. It builds the nutritional foundation and sustainable habits that help you maintain your results long after the medication is done.
As always, Jessica reviews each client's health history and medications individually to make sure the program is tailored to where you are right now.
